Dr. Shamekia Nwafor

Dr. Shamekia Nwafor is a Therapeutic Optometrist serving the greater Lafayette and surrounding Acadiana region of Louisiana, and the new owner of Carencro Eye Clinic in Carencro, LA. She specializes in ocular disease management, glaucoma management, dry eye treatment and specialty contact lenses. Originally from Eunice, LA she now resides in Breaux Bridge, LA.

She has been practicing for over 14 years and developed a reputation known for her unwavering commitment to advancing access to quality eye care. A proud graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology Premed and Chemistry. She later earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

She was recently named a 40 Under 40 honoree during Xavier University of Louisiana’s Centennial Award Year and received a Legend Award from the National Association of University Women St. Martin Branch —All honors that recognize not only professional excellence, but transformational leadership and community impact. She is a proud member of the National Optometric Association , the American Optometric Association, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dr. Nwafor lives by the saying “blessed to be a blessing “ and serves as the Vision Director of Love Impact Coalition, a nonprofit organization that promotes quality, compassionate eyecare. She leads initiatives providing free medical, vision, and dental care to underserved communities throughout Louisiana. Her work reflects both clinical excellence and compassionate service.

In her spare time Dr. Nwafor enjoys mentoring to high school students, and traveling the world with her husband and two sons
